It might be tricky for some to choose between skincare and makeup but I feel like for us French women, skincare has always been more important. When it comes to beauty, we believe that less is more and simplicity is key. We're big on natural beauty and we love a good skincare routine!

Don't get me wrong, I wear makeup every day when I go to work or when I go out and I LOVE it and feel more confident wearing makeup! But I always keep it minimal and I mainly use it to enhance my natural features. Keeping my skin healthy and well hydrated with skincare is so important in my opinion - because you can apply all the makeup in the world, but if you don't take care of your skin first, it's just not going to look good.

So here are my top 7 French skincare brands I love that you need to try out if you haven't yet! I consider them the basics of French skincare - most of these brands can be found in French pharmacies and everyone here uses them or at least know of them.

#1 Cattier

The Green Clay mask from Cattier is my absolute favourite product. I have been using it once every week for almost four years now and it's the best mask I've found for my combination/oily skin to regulate excess sebum. Cattier is a natural skincare brand that has been around for more than 50 years, all of their products are made in France and most of them are certified organic 🌿

#2 Caudalie

Caudalie was born 25 years ago in Bordeaux (my favourite city in France!) and has a very unique expertise: the brand uses active ingredients obtained from grapes and grapevines from French vineyards. 🍇 Caudalie is known for formulating effective anti-ageing products but I personally love their range for combination to oily skin.

#3 Avène

This is the skincare brand I go for when I'm having skin problems. I have really sensitive skin that gets red easily and is prone to eczema (especially on my hands) and I find that Avène products are super gentle and perfect for soothing irritated skin. The brand even has a Very Sensitive Skin range which I love!

#4 Nuxe

Nuxe is a pioneering French brand in natural cosmetology that relies on plant extracts and natural botanicals to improve the appearance of the skin. It is best known for its Huile Prodigieuse 💛 (prodigious oil in English) that has been on the market since 1991! It's a natural dry oil for skin and hair that is made from 7 botanical oils of the highest quality.

#5 Bioderma

Bioderma has a range for all ages and skin types so you'll probably find something that works for you. They are experts in skin biology, meaning that they use a scientific approach based on understanding the skin and its biological mechanisms to develop products that will help repair and strengthen the skin. I especially love Bioderma's miscellar water which is super gentle to remove makeup.

#6 La Roche-Posay

This is the best skincare brand for sensitive skin. They are committed to developing formulas that are gentle yet effective for sensitive skin - their mission is actually to offer a better life for sensitive skin! My pharmacist always recommend their products and I know dermatologists swear by them too. The whole Effaclar line is amazing and I also love the Cicaplast baume for skin irritations (I use it on my face after getting my eyebrows done because this area is always a little bit red after and it helps calm the irritation down.)

#7 Melvita

Last but not least! The organic skincare brand Melvita has been around since 1983. Founded by a beekeeper-biologist, you'll notice that some of their best sellers contain organic thyme honey, an ingredient that has a clinically proven effect to repair and soothe the skin.

Have you ever tried any of these brands? Which one is your favourite? It's so hard to choose but my top 3 would be Cattier, Caudalie and La Roche-Posay 🖤🇫🇷
